Action. The lazy ear hates this word. I would consider myself a pretty active person, but sometimes you just don't "feel" like doing what needs to be done.
However, in regard to the poor and needy God requires us to take action. Like I mentioned in my previous post, the Lord has been challenging me in this area.
Proverbs 19:17 says, "He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and that which he has given He will repay to him." Psalm 41:1-3 says that if we consider the weak and the poor, God will bless us. He will even go so far as to strengthen us on our sick bed and "transform" any illness that we might have.
I thought about the story of the lepers in Luke 17:12-14. It says, "And as He was going into one village, He was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance. And they raised up their voices and called, Jesus, Master, take pity and have mercy on us! And when He saw them, He said to them, Go [at once] and show yourselves to the priests. And as they went, they were cured and made clean."
These lepers had a need. Jesus told them to do something. They did it and were healed!
It seems that when we get our eyes off ourselves and do what God instructs us to do we will definitely be blessed in our area of need. Lord help us to remember to sow seeds of mercy!
